Considering a PHEV or Hybrid SUV

Gas prices are getting rough, and I'm interested in a PHEV or hybrid SUV to cut down on trips to the pump and save on mileage. I've been looking at the Toyota and Hyundai hybrids, PHEVs, and Audi Q5. Any thoughts on these? Are there any other small or medium SUVs in this range that I should consider? I'm not quite ready to go all-electric yet and don't need anything fancy or luxurious.

Do you have other vehicles? If so, an EV might be a great complement for short distance commutes and errands. Actually, range anxiety wasn't a problem at all on my recent 250-mile round trip. Modern EVs can handle commutes that distance easily. Plus, they're definitely a lot of fun to drive compared to PHEVs and hybrids. The instant torque makes a big difference.

Yeah, EVs are perfect for short trips and the range isn’t an issue for most modern models. Instant torque makes them way more fun to drive than hybrids.

Why aren't you ready to go all-electric yet?

I know EVs are pretty normal now and charging isn't a big deal anymore. But it's still nice to have an ICE car as a backup, just in case.

Going PHEV is a great way to reduce gas costs, but make sure it fits your driving habits. The Toyota RAV4 Prime is the best choice if you want max EV miles, but Toyota’s waitlists can be long.

The Audi Q5 PHEV is fun to drive, but the EV range is shorter (~23 miles) than Toyota and Hyundai’s PHEVs. If you mostly do city driving and short commutes, a regular hybrid (Honda CR-V Hybrid, Kia Sportage Hybrid, or Toyota Highlander Hybrid) might be a better investment without worrying about charging.

What’s your usual daily drive like? If it’s under 30 miles, a PHEV could save you a ton on gas.

Great point! If the OP's daily drive is under 30 miles, a PHEV is definitely worth it. The Toyota RAV4 Prime is a top pick for EV range, but if they're looking for something with less wait time, the CR-V Hybrid or Sportage Hybrid could be great alternatives.

i want to buy a car and have not decided if I should get a Hybrid or Full EV. I'm more inclined for a Hybrid but my wife wants EV. We looked at VW ID4, Ioniq 5, Mach-E, Model Y, and Lexus NX Hybrid.. We want a small SUV for road trips but I’m worried EVs are hard to plan for road trips since there aren’t a lot of charging stations. Any advice
